Cher, famously known as the “Goddess of Pop,” burst onto the scene in the early 1960s. Cher’s illustrious career has been a one-of-a-kind journey. In tribute to her remarkable life, the Broadway production, The Cher Show, was conceived. This jukebox musical, penned by Rick Elice, unfolds with Cher portrayed by three actresses. The trifecta of Cher’s each embody a distinct era. The first Cher – known as “Babe” – embodies the singer’s persona from the 1950s to the 1960s. The next character – “Lady” – captures Cher’s essence during the 1970s. The final portrayal – “Star” – encapsulates the 1980s through the 1990s. These three facets interact and support one another, navigating the challenges of stardom at various points throughout the production.

The tunes and orchestrations, arrangements, and musical supervision were handled by Daryl Waters, with a help from Steve Orich on additional orchestrations. he creative stage was set by Christine Jones and Brett J. Banakis, Kevin Adams lit up the show, and Nevin Steinberg fine-tuned the sound. And as for the producers, we’ve got Jeffrey Seller, Flody Suarez, and of course, Cher herself.
The Cher Show would hardly live up to its name without an extravagant array of bedazzled outfits. And just as you’d expect, costume designer Gabriella Slade took bling to dazzling heights – ensuring the costumes truly embodied Cher. You’ll be hard-pressed to find this much shimmer since Cher’s iconic ’90s era. But that’s not all; given Cher’s penchant for wigs, the production also boasts an impressive array of hairpieces. “A big, loud, bright, shiny slice of Vegas on Broadway!” – Daily Beast
Michael Dale from Broadway World had nothing but good things to say about the show. In his review, he said: “While The Cher Show is flashy entertainment from start to finish, full of vibrant artists giving splashy turns, the center of it all is Block’s solidly grounded acting performance, portraying a woman trying to maintain an idealized public image while privately grasping for control of her career in a business that hasn’t quite heard the messages of the growing Feminist movement. Whether camping it up for “Turn Back Time” or ripping her heart out in “The Way Of Love” Block commands attention as Cher discovers her own path to liberation through self-reinvention.”
So, if you’re wondering which of Cher’s hits are included in the jukebox musical, we got you covered.
