Debuting in 2015 and performing for almost 10 years now, Hamilton took Broadway by storm with its revolutionary approach. Based on Ron Chernow’s book about Alexander Hamilton, it tells the journey of Alexander Hamilton’s early years and journey to power as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. This is a profound story that is both creative and political, Hamilton is still to this day hailed as fearless in its storytelling and has influenced politics, culture, and our youth.
It was created by American composer and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda who is also known for his achievements in film, Broadway and more. He went on to compose the music and lyrics for his former Broadway play called "In the Heights", another Tony award-winning showcase. Miranda is also the creator of music and lyrics in many high profile musical movies such as Moana. This hit musical, featuring a mixed cast, has showtunes in a style that blends new genres like hip-hop, jazz, R&B, which has made Hamilton all the more innovative and engaging by showcasing these music genres to the Broadway stage. Showtunes such as “Satisfied”, “Wait For It”, and “You’ll Be Back”, have been considered as Broadways best memorable songs from the musical since its Broadway debut. Lin-Manuel Miranda has attributed his music inspiration for Hamilton came from top rap and hip-hop rappers of America, he wanted to marry the two different genres together, something that was unheard of! The showtunes of Hamilton are praised heavily by Texas critics alike, as compared to other Broadway shows produced today, Hamilton continues to be more fast-paced and fun than others.
Hamilton has garnered a record-breaking 11 Tony Awards and 16 Tony nominations, Olivier Awards, Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and even a special mention from the Kennedy Center Honors. To date, Hamilton has achieved global acclaim as it continues its worldwide tour, including the continents of Europe and Asia.
