Who knew a broadway musical about American Founding fathers could be so capitvating? For the affordable price of under $100 per seat, there is no reason not to witness Hamilton on Broadway.
Making its first appearance in in 2015 and performing for almost a decade, Hamilton took Broadway by storm with its innovative approach. Based on Ron Chernow’s biography about Alexander Hamilton, it tells the story of Alexander Hamilton’s early years and rise to power as one of the Founding Fathers of the USA. This is a profound story that is both creative and clever, Hamilton is still to this day lauded as fearless in its storytelling that has influenced politics, culture, and our youth.
It was created by American composer and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda who is also known for his numerous accomplishments in both Broadway and film. He went on to compose the score and lyrics for his former Broadway play called "In the Heights", another Tony award-winning spectacle. Miranda is also the creator of music and lyrics in many high profile musical movies such as Moana. This hit musical, featuring a ethinically diverse cast, has showtunes in a style that mixes new genres like hip hop, jazz, R&B and more, which has made Hamilton all the more revolutionary and exciting by bringing these music genres to Broadway. Showtunes such as “Satisfied”, “Wait For It”, and “You’ll Be Back”, have been considered as Broadways best memorable songs from the production since its Broadway release. Lin-Manuel Miranda has said that his music inspiration for Hamilton to become top rap and hip hop rappers of USA, he wanted to unite the different genres together, something that was unheard of! The music of Hamilton is praised heavily by Texas critics alike, as compared to other Broadway musicals that have been staged, Hamilton proves to be more fast-paced and lively than others.
Hamilton has garnered a record-breaking 11 Tony Awards and an extra 16 Tony nominations, Olivier Awards, Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and even a special mention from the Kennedy Center Honors. So far, Hamilton has achieved widespread success as it continues its worldwide tour, including the continents of Europe and Asia.
Hamilton is now available this spring in Sarofim Hall, the best theater for the arts in Houston, where former musicals have been received incredibly well. Tickets for the Sunday 9th March 2025 showing are limited as Hamilton will only be running for a short time in Sarofim Hall during March.
