Lin-Manuel Miranda re-tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, the first American Secretary of Treasury, through Hip-Hop and R&B music that has charmed audiences for nearly a decade. "I understand how ridiculous the elevator pitch for this show is," said Miranda. "It sounds improbable. And then once you start hearing about Hamilton's life story, it sort of makes sense". Alexander Hamilton’s tale is a chaotic one, to say the least.
From starting the Federalist Papers to setting up the American Coast Guard, and finally meeting his tragic end at the hands of Vice President Aaron Burr. Hamilton covers various key points in the Nations history.
By re-telling this story, Hamilton has gone on to win 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy Award, and the Pulitzer Prize in 2016!
Lin-Manuel Miranda not only produced this award-winning production, but he also took on the role of Alexander Hamilton when the show first came to Broadway.
The cast of Hamilton, despite playing as white historical figures, is composed of non-white actors. "This is a story about America then, told by America now," says Lin-Manuel Miranda. The present cast of the production features talented actors such as Trey Curtis as Alexander Hamilton, Tamar Greene as George Washington, Stephanie Jae Park as Eliza Hamilton, and others.
