“Yet while this singular production evokes the Great Depression with uncompromising bleakness, it is ultimately the opposite of depressing. That’s because McPherson hears America singing in the dark. And those voices light up the night with the radiance of divine grace.” - New York Times
Named after the superstar's quintessential folk track, Girl from the North Country made its debut in 2017, presenting at The Old Vic before moving to London's West End. The limited-week jaunt was a huge success, stealing three wins from the Laurence Olivier Awards.
The musical then traveled to the United States at the Public Theatre, New York, in late 2018. Here, it won an esteemed Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical from the Outer Critics Circle Awards. In 2019, the show finally performed on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre. Despite its run cut short because of the coronavirus pandemic, it received seven Tony Award nominations, winning in the Best Orchestrations category.
This coming spring, the jukebox musical will visit the Sarofim Hall for its latest string of shows. The renowned venue offers crowds a truly unforgettable experience thanks to its high-end seats, remarkable stage, and cutting-edge theatrical amenities.
