Funny Girl is based on events in the life of Ziegfeld Follies personality, Fanny Brice shortly before, during and after World War I and chronicles her rise from being an awkward, unattractive, stage-struck teenager to national stardom. Her story begins with her young days in New York's Lower East Side, where the young starlet in the making goofs her way through burlesque and vaudeville, dreaming of making it big despite the discouragement of her friends and family, who tell her she isn't star material enough for the stage. It also covers the story of her love for and subsequent failed union to Nick Arnstein, a handsome, man about town whose allure Fanny finds irresistible. The musical is full of the unforgettable music that anyone would come to expect from a show of this caliber and included are several show-stopping numbers such as "People" and "Don't Let It Rain on My Parade".
